“The wall in back of the scene is not projection, it’s LED. Using a video wall ended up being a great solution for Stein’s concept to relocate the perspective of the audience in order to illustrate to the scenic geography delineated in the play, by moving the sky. Back in 2003 when we made this piece, our system seemed quite high tech: seven computers for artwork preparation and rendering linked on a LAN in the auditorium and a Wi-Fi network to connect to a PC on the back of the light wall. In order to trigger the video clips I designed a home-made player within Macromedia Director so we could follow along with the actors’ timing. Nowadays you would just grab an off the shelf media server and a basic laptop. Well, It seemed pretty cool at the time.”
