To be sure, there were no flaming disasters, but the big drama occurred when opening night arrived, having only had private dress rehearsals with no audience, the sold-out house created the inevitable pressure displacement and all the walls drew forward to auditorium like sails. This can happen even with heavy velour drapes, but usually there are opportunities to test it. As Luca doesn’t watch his premieres, he didn’t have to suffer through that (he heard about it, of course). By the second performance the kinks were worked out.
